This is how to hang a slaughtered calf up to tenderize the meat. The book says it should be hung by the hips for a better quality.

Feeding partly on livestock the wolf in Sweden was hunted to extinction in the 20th century. Later a couple of wolves came in from Finland and founded a new population that recently met the government’s recovery goal of 200 individuals. A heated debate is now raging over the species’ future.

The bird life of Lund is quite poor this time of the year but some of the winter birds are very beautiful. Waxwings breed in the Northern woods but come down South searching for berries in fall and keep moving around through the winter. Sometimes they get drunk because of the natural fermentation in the rowan berries they feed on. This one looks all right though.

The hunting magazine Svensk Jakt recently published an article by the archaologist and hunter Leif Häggström. The article features two mesolithic finds of aurochsen in Denmark. Both were shot but escaped and drowned in a lake, where the hunters never found them. I illustrated the article with this picture.
