Shapes and gloss

These are demonstrations of how to render shapes and surfaces. The bottle was painted with two consecutive washes, both leaving the paper alone at certain spots to make a glossy surface. The orange was made with a single wash, leaving some virgin paper for the glossy part and with a gradation between the shadow blue and the orange-brown of the highlight.
