A single lapwing returned to its breeding grounds ahead of the others to claim a good territory but a cold snap must have forced it to turn back south quite soon. Even a thin cover of ice stops it from reaching its sustenance.

While all other manufacturers now favor artificial pigments, Daniel Smith goes back to the quarries for the natural beauties Monte Amiata sienna, Burgundy yellow ochre and Burgundy red ochre. These earth colors are as old as Earth itself but newcomers in my harem. I may now kiss the brides.

Gunnar Tryggmo, Peter Elfman and myself went birding today. It was a bit too cold for my fingers, so sketching was poor but we found a few lapwings and curlews, a pair of pintails and a couple of shelducks. The sea, sand and reed beds had wonderful colors that took my eyes away from the birds though.
