Carin

This is my neighbor and fellow watercolor painter Carin. I painted it for my next course, which starts on Monday. The trick with painting faces is to avoid making it look like a manual for how to make a doll: no sharp edges between hair and skin, hand and forehead, cheek and neck and so on. We'll get back to that later.

Muir Woods

William and Elisabeth Kent bought a redwood forest in California in 1905, named it after their conservationist friend John Muir and gave it to the federal government. President Theodore Roosevelt proclaimed it a National Monument to preserve its beauty and help tree-lovers enjoy it. And it's still a wonderful place, where we spent a day with our friends last summer. The children took a rest on a trunk that the National Park Service had put across a creek for visitors to pass over.

Painting together

I wish I had more time for painting with our children. Both my daughters like it and are fast learners. Sissa did an elkhound and a waterfall today.
