My favourite winter birds just arrived from the very north of Sweden, Finland or northwestern Russia. Waxwings are one of the few species specialized in berries and will definitely like it this year. The sunshine last spring made for fair bunches of rowan berries and rosehips.
A memory from last spring: a recently returned male Wheatear. These birds are perfectly designed for life among the rocks, their black and white tails exposing them in flight and concealing them when perched.
